Grace

"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see."
(John Newton - 1725 - 1807)

What is grace?

The dictionary describes it as, "favor, or goodwill; a manifestation of favor, especially by a superior; mercy; clemency; pardon."

The Bible says...

"being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"
Romans 3:24 (American Standard Version)

"for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;"
Ephesians 2:8 (American Standard Version)

"Grace"

Late last year my beloved Persian cat Holly, died. She was 16 years old, and died of Chronic Renal Failure (CRF). It was hard to temporarily say "goodbye" after all those years. Personally, I believe that I will see her again in Heaven.

I decided to adopt a kitty from the local animal shelter, as so many are needing homes now, partially because of the economic situation in our world. It came to me that her name would be "Grace."

I visited the local animal shelter the next weekend. It was a rainy day. As I neared the shelter, the clouds seemed to open up directly over it, and the rain stopped.

They took me to the cat room, and there in stacks of cages were cats waiting for someone to choose them to take home. But there were very few kittens. A volunteer went directly to a cage and pulled out a 5 month old black and white kitten, who was hiding in the back of the cage, and handed her to me. She stayed in my arms, as I spoke to her quietly, and petted her. She was scared because of all the commotion going on there. I held her for quite a while, and she started purring.

I knew that this was the one...
this was "Grace" (or Gracie, as I would nickname her). I told them that I wanted to adopt her. The volunteer went to the cage, and couldn't find the card with the information on her. Then she spotted it...it was hidden behind another. No one knew that she was there! It was as if she was being held for me. They told me that I could pick her up the next day, after she would be spayed. I wondered what she must have thought, with me leaving her there, and going through what she did afterwards. I came for her the next day, and took her home. She has turned out to be the most loving cat I have ever had. She truly is happy in her new home, and loves me and her little friend Mandy, my other cat.

One night, I had the movie, Jesus of Nazareth on. I was about to give Gracie some treats (when she is about to eat treats, anything could be going on around her, and she pretty much wouldn't care...the treats are the priority). All of a sudden, before eating the treats, she stopped, turned around and saw a closeup of "Jesus" on the screen. It was the scene in which He says "Lazarus, come forth!" She kept staring at Him. Then she started walking towards the screen, "talking" to Him...the way she does to her favorite toys...kind of a coo-ing. She got to the TV armoire, and stood up to the TV, still looking at Him and coo-ing. I wondered, "Has she seen Him somewhere before...why did she recognize that this person was different from others?" She has since looked at the TV and saw other men on it, but kept on walking, paying no attention to them.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him; and without Him was not anything made that hath been made."
John 1:1-3

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth."
John 1:14

"For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
John 1:17

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.

Rapture

The day of May 21st, 2011 has come and gone, and no Rapture took place as predicted.

Does that mean that it won't happen at all? Just because a man predicted that it would happen on a particular day, and it didn't, does that mean that Jesus is not returning at all?

What exactly does Jesus say about His return?

"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." Matthew 24:36-44

Jesus said Himself that no one knows the day or the hour, so to put a day and time on His return is in error.

Know that He IS coming...the signs are all around us.

And as Jesus said, "Be ready." To be left behind will be an unimaginable tragedy.

Until then, live your lives for Him, and let the world know that Jesus saves! He gave His life for them, and is not willing that any should perish.

The mere fact that He has not come yet testifies to His great patience and love.

Hope

This world has always seen its troubles throughout the centuries. But lately its troubles seem to be falling upon us as "avalanches!" One right after the other.

Earthquakes, unusual weather, strife and unrest, disease and pestilence, murders and unthinkable crimes against humanity, economic woes, food shortages, prices rising, businesses failing, and more.

It's almost more than we can imagine, or process in our minds. It threatens the very peace and joy in our hearts.

And yet, as believers and followers of Jesus, we have HOPE.

What does the Bible say about hope?

"...rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing steadfastly in prayer." Romans 12:12

"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

"...looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;" Titus 2:13

He is our HOPE!

He is the blessed assurance that if everything falls apart around us, we shall remain standing in Him.

"These things have I spoken unto you, that in Me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

"He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with Me in My throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with My Father in His throne." Revelation 3:21

Because of Jesus, we can have peace in the midst of the storm. This world is moving forward to its destiny...a destiny that will ultimately see the King of Kings and Lord of Lords returning upon a white horse to reclaim what is rightfully His.

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war." Revelation 19:11

"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in Heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 11:15

We can take comfort in knowing, for the Lord has already given us the ending of this story, that WE WIN!!! We win because He has already won the war. He won that war on a cross over 2,000 years ago. It is finished.

He calls us, as we wait and hope, to shine His light through us, and to offer His hope to this dying world.

JESUS...our hope.

His Beauty

Have you ever wondered what the Lord looks like? What it would be like to see Him face to face?

Well, imagine the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen; or the rainbow that covers the sky; the soft, unblemished white blanket of snow that covers the land; the rushing waterfall; the clear, blue sky overhead; a field of colorful wildflowers; or the mighty ocean, crashing its waves to the shore...and you have seen a fraction of Him!

All of nature speaks of His beauty, which spills over into creation itself.

Even the rocks cry out and praise Him!

"And He answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." Luke 19:40

He is the Creator, and even His creation recognizes Him.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

"For by Him all things were created that are in Heaven and that are on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." Colossians 1:16

To imagine that all things in Heaven and Earth just happened, is to deny the complexities of them. These things could not have just happened. The fragile butterfly; the magnificent lion; the timid deer; soaring birds, who defy gravity; the giant whales; the tiny ladybug; the kangaroo; seashells, which look like they were handpainted; and on and on...even to include microscopic life. Accidents? Hardly.

Only one planet in this universe, that we know of, has evolved and supports this complexity of life. It seems that the Creator Himself chose the Earth to support His creation.

We cannot deny the creation, which is all around us...and to believe in His creation, is to believe in Him. For His creation is Him...it is a part of Him.

And to believe in Him, is to believe in His only begotten Son, Jesus. And to believe in Jesus, is to accept who He says He is...

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." John 14:5-7

He is the only way to God...not one of several ways.

THE WAY.

If you have not accepted Jesus into your heart, and accepted His "gift" (He gave His life to pay for your sins), then I encourage you to do so today.

"...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
2 Corinthians 6:1-3

He is waiting for you.

The Gift

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:15-17

How much does God love us? So much so that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to suffer and die that we might live. He paid the ultimate price, giving His life for ours, that we would not be lost forever.

He is "The Gift" of Christmas.

What kind of love is this? It's a love that we will never comprehend...a "crazy" kind of love, that will give anything to protect and not lose those who are loved by Him. Websters Dictionary defines crazy as: passionately preoccupied: obsessed; to an extreme degree.

This means that even a person in prison, who has committed the most horrible crime imaginable, can be saved and forgiven by God, if they accept the free gift of Jesus. It's up to them. The Father loves them in this same crazy way, and has done everything that He can do...the rest is up to the person. No one, not even God, can force anyone to accept a gift...they must receive it.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Corinthians 2:11-13

Not only does He love us in this crazy way...but He's jealous!

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:13-15

Some say that all religions lead to Heaven. But the Lord says that you must not worship any other God. There is only One...and He is the great I Am.

He is jealous for your attention. When you let the things of this world consume your attention, then you ignore and turn away from Him.

So when you celebrate Christmas this year...remember that you are loved in a "crazy" way, by a jealous God! The Creator of this universe loves you...

What more could you want or ask for?
I invite you, if you don't know this wonderful loving God...let Him into your heart, and accept His free gift. You will never regret it.

Merry Christmas!

Be Still and Trust

Do you ever feel like God has forgotten you?

And like everyone else receives answers to their prayers, except you? Know that God hears every prayer, even before it's spoken. And that even before we ask, He answers.

So, why have you not received your answer?

Admittedly, there can be many reasons that answers to prayer have not been received. But sometimes, no answer from the Lord can be an answer in itself, as the Lord wishes us to be still and trust Him.

After doing all that we know to do to receive His answer to our prayers, we can rest in His word:

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
Psalm 46:9-11
